Does anyone know any acting or modeleing jobs that are coming up in Chicago? I'm desparate!
You can't just walk off the street and get acting or modeling jobs. You need to gain training and experience first.
I know nothing about modeling. But I know a fair amount about acting, and you're in a great place to learn that.
Chicago is one of the world's great theatre towns. Settle down and train at one of the fine schools in the area. When your talent matures, you and a career will find each other. In the meantime, go to see as much local theatre as possible and see if you can train with the company whose work most impresses you. I am a resident writer with the Victory Gardens Theatre, so I think a lot of their programs. Learning improvisation at Second City is a fine idea, too, and probably the best way to both learn your craft and have fun at the same time.
How does living in Denver compare with Chicago? Considering a move to Denver for a job relocation. Grew up in Chicago and never lived anywhere else. Will it compare well. I like big city life, but also enjoy the outdoors.
Denver has some similarities to Chicago. They're both fun, progressive cities with a lively, walkable downtown area. The 16th Street Mall in Denver is no Michigan Avenue in terms of its stores, but the effect is the same - a big walkable shopping district in the middle of the city. Denver's a little more sprawling, but they're working on a light rail system which, in the way its trains radiate from downtown, works somewhat like the "L".
Denver also has a similar young population and a strong interest in sports (the Broncos get as much adoration, if not more, than the Bears), art (the new museum is beautiful), and music. Denver has slightly better weather than Chicago - it snows, but then it melts. On the other hand, because it is dryer there, there's less water - there's a river, but nothing like Lake Michigan. Also, both cities are surprisingly flat - Denver is on the plains near the mountains, not in it, so the biking in Denver is quite nice. And the mountains nearby are spectacular, far more fun for outdoor life than anything you'll find nearby or in Chicago.
I think the biggest difference is that Denver is, and really does feel, far smaller than Chicago. To some extent, Denver is trying to remake itself, but it still has a "cow-town" feel at times. In other words, there are many good restaurants, but not the extent of Chicago. There's good shopping, but not to the extent of Chicago. The skyline is OK to look at, but there's nothing like the Hancock Building. The activities in the summer are fun, but it's not the Taste of Chicago. The art museum is pleasant but has nothing like "Sunday Afternoon on the Grande Jatte." It's Chicago-like but on a much smaller scale.
Still, that all said, while I love Chicago, if I had to move, the city I'd most want to go to from here is Denver.
Is anyone else having problems finding decent paying jobs in the Chicago area? My husband has been looking for a project management job in the Chicago Metro area and seems to only getting inquiries from headhunters that ask for his resume and then he never hears from them again. If he follows up on the contact they get nasty and say they will contact him if he is qualified. His resume looks great and he is qualified for the positions he applies for.
Does anyone think they have any jobs to offer? Does anyone else blame this on Blago? We do. I am just curious of what other peoples experience with this is.
They want experience but don't want to pay for it! Been there done that! Been unemployed since Dec. and either they don't pay for crap, or they are affraid they will have to pay! Good luck to you's
