My outlook sendmail works occasionally. smtp=smtp.sbcglobal.net?
I need help to know what is wrong here. Most of the time my send mail just errors out. Can some one please help me. I know Port 25 is disabled. The current settings worked fine for about a year. Just recently it started acting strange, most of the time it will not send, the email sets in the out box. If I delete the message in the outbox, reboot, it may work for a while then start acting up again. The current settings work fine for the other computers on our network.
We are using outlook professional from the MS XP office professional suite. we are using pop3. I have no trouble receiving emails at all.
If you have virus protection enabled checking your inbound and outbound email, try disabling it. Sometimes these applications can interfere with mail delivery.
Also, try contacing your service provider and ask if they are having troubles with their mail server.
You don't send mail through POP3, you send mail through the SMTP protocol. So, it could be that Outlook is having difficulties contacting your SMTP server or Outlook may be having difficulties doing a name lookup for the SMTP server. If you're using smtp.sbcglobal.net, then try substituting the IP address (207.115.63.46) in the configuration for the outbound mail server. By using the IP address, this avoids DNS lookup issues. If you still have difficulties after changing the SMTP host and disabling virus protection, then it may be a connectivity issue.
I would also recommend getting Adaware and scan for spyware (which can affect internet performance). You can get adaware from:
