Which GPS was rated best by consumer reports?
There was a recent issue rating portable GPS's and I'd like to know which were rated as the top 5. Yes, I'm too much of a cheap bastard to subscribe and too lazy to go to the library.
Looking for exact manufacturer and models rated by Consumer Reports as top 5.
Garmin. Garmin streetpilot is a great GPS. It has all the points of interest already downloaded into the unit and by far is the most accurate I have seen. My husband uses these for his business vehicles. He bought me a Tom Tom last christmas because it was slim and would look cool in my car. That thing is horrible. It doesn't have any points of interest. It doesn't list walmart or any local businesses. It has gotten me lost three times and I can barely understand the british english they use. Garmin hands down. Pick up a garmin streetpilot 330 and you will not be disappointed, I promise. See the reviews on walmart.com below.

I'm looking to buy a portable CAR GPS for a loved one at Christmas, and am unfamiliar with the various different types, options, etc.
Is there somewhere I can find a "Consumer Reports" style report on this type of product?

Question about GPS car systems.?
I am shopping for a GPS system.Consumer reports rates them for all different features.There are some features that I do not know about,and wondered which ones are inportant to have,and which ones would rarely get used.The ones I am unfamiliar with are "routing options","routing time",and traffic capable.What do these options mean?Thanks.
"routing options" is how versatile the unit is in getting you around roadblocks, traffic, etc. if it turns out the "fastest" route isn't an option. E.g., some units allow you to avoid up to a specific point on your route (which is very cool), some allow you to take a detour of x number of miles, some allow you to simply plan an alternative that may or may not avoid the problem (less versatile).
not sure what "routing time" is; maybe refers to how long it takes to plan a route? or, perhaps, to whether it can give you an estimate of how long it will take to get somewhere?
"traffic capable" means that it can get real-time traffic updates and inform you where there is traffic as you're driving, so you can effectively avoid it before you run into it.
I've only had one system, but i can recommend it, the TomTom One; isn't as capable as many systems out there but is much cheaper and is a great deal for the price--can do most of the stuff you really want out of a portable GPS and is
easy to use.
